Coal India Limited (CIL) and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 21 April 2025 to establish a 2 x 800 MW Ultra Supercritical Power Plant in Jharkhand.
The project is a brownfield expansion of DVC's existing Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPS).
The total investment is estimated at ₹ 16,500 crore.
The joint venture will have a 50% equity sharing basis between CIL and DVC.
Coal for the power plant will be sourced from nearby coalfields of CIL subsidiaries, Bharat Coking Coal Limited and Central Coalfields Limited.
